If you're telling me about Sen. Ted Stevens, it's pronounced in-dy-ted, not in-dick-ted. Also, to save you that first question, yes. I've heard about all of that.
ha. i started a new job last week and somewhere in the process of trying to seem humorous and charming with my new coworkers made a ted stevens joke. the woman i was talking to looked at me blankly and said, "Who's that?" I said something like, "Oh -- um, I guess -- well, he's an Alaska senator and... You know what, never mind."

I'm sure if I were in my adopted state instead of AK I would be facing this same interaction many times a day.
No doubt. I kind of pine for the tacit glee in watching him go down that I assume is going on up yonder.
